PRINTMAKING & MIXED MEDIA

WOODBLOCK & JAPANESE BOOKBINDING

Multi -Block Woodblock Printing incorporating both Traditional Japanese non toxic inking methods with watercolour and western inking techniques with small brayes and Akua inks also soluble in detergent and water.
Carving will be done on both Japanese shina and local plywood. Printing to be done by hand with a selction of barens.
Introduction to Japanese Bookbinding - There is also the opportunity for the application of developing a print to be used as the cover for a traditional four-hole binding soft cover book A5 in size. Basic Japanese binding methods will be introduced. This course is suited to artist of all levels with or without printmaking experience.

Roslyn was born Sydney 1953. First studied at the National Art School and Shillito Design School, Sydney followed by post graduate studies in printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. In 1985 awarded a research scholarship by the Japanese Government to attend The Printmaking Dept., The National University of Fine Art, Tokyo to undertake postgraduate studies in Traditional Japanese woodblock printing. During her career as an artist printmaker Roslyn Kean has taught at universities both nationally and in the UK.
Her specialised area of Traditional Japanese methods of relief printing has enabled her to offer unique workshops throughout Australia. Currently she is the Director of The Stables Print Studio, Sydney where she works and offers unique open studio days to share her skills.
